Load balancers are used to enhance Security,
Reliability and Scalability. It distributes the incoming traffic among healthy
EC2 instance, IP address and containers in a automated way. With this feature
once can achieve fault tolerance for any application. ELB offers three types of
Load Balancers.
Application Load Balancer: It operates at layer 7 and
used for HTTP and HTTPS traffic.
Network Load Balancer: It operates at layer 4 and used
for TCP traffics.
Classic Load Balancer: It operates on both request
level and connection level.
An ELB can be Internet facing or Internal load balancer. Let us have a look at Classic Load Balancer.
To ensure that the ELB service can
scale ELB nodes in each AZ
- Ensure that the subnet defined for the load balancer is at least /27 in size.
- At least 8 available IP address so ELB nodes can use to scale.
This was just a basic about ELB in next article will discuss about configuration and important features.
